XF 18mm f/2 R

One of the first three original FX lenses, the 18mm f/2 R can be said to be one of Fujifilm's modern classics. It was originally released with the 35mm f/1.4 R and the 60mm f/2.4 macro lenses for the X-Pro1 back in 2012.
The 18mm on the Fujifilm APS-C cameras equals 27mm, or 76.5 degrees angle of view. It is a compact lens, which makes it great for those, who just want to put their camera in the pockets and go out to shoot. This obviously makes it a natural for many street photographers, though the new lineup of the fast f/2 (and f/2.8) lenses, the 16mm, 23mm, 35mm, and 50mm, challenge the 18mm f/2's status as the compact go to choice for street photographers. Still, for certain cameras, such as the X-E series, this is still a good choice.

Though one of the older lenses, it is still a great lens for a good price for most people, who like to shoot at the more wide end. And with the f/2 aperture it allows just a little more light than the XF18-55mm f/2.8-4 kit lens, even at the widest end.

An Interesting Day in Fuji-Lens Land!

Two interesting things to happen today: A First Look at the Viltrox XF 33mm f1.4 Prime AF Lens The first online look at Viltrox' new 33mm f/1.4 prime lens, as well as verification of a new Fujinon lens to come. First things first, I know that a lot of Fuji-users have been VERY interested in the three new prime lenses, which Viltrox announced late 2019, and which were expected in the beginning of 2020. Recently they announced that the first of them, the Viltrox XF 33mm f1.4 APS-C Prime Autofocus Lens, now is ready for orders. Of course a lot of people were curious as to the performance and built quality of this lens, and what to expect. Viltrox' 85mm f/1.8 prime lens was highly recommended and received a lot of positive reviews, particularly after the last update fixed some initial autofocus issues in continuous focus node. Now we finally have our first look at the new 33mm prime, namely by Mathias Burling, who gives his first impressions of it on his YouTube channel...

XF 27mm f/2.8

The XF 27mm f/2.8 is one of Fujifilm's few actual pancake lenses, the only other being the 18mm f/2 lens. It offers an equivalent of 41mm on a full frame camera, or a 55.5 degrees angle of view. This lens has no weather sealing, is not considered particularly fast, and has a rumor for not having particular good resolution. It has a rumor for being a kind of "meh" lens, only being attractive for its cheap price. Yet, many reviewers express surprise when they review this little gem. Apparently it has more than what the eyes sees, particularly for the casual street photographer or documentarist, who wants something wider than the 35mm lenses, but still a little tighter than the 23mm lenses. It is a lens which both allows you to take in the scene, but also to get intimate with the subject, combining the best of the 35mm and 23mm worlds. And did I mention that it is a cheap lens? Also, the rumor of not having a particular good resolution might be unjustified. Check more b...
